As the summer solstice approaches, the community gears up for an exhilarating celebration on wheels along the scenic Stevens Creek Trail. The Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition and Friends of Stevens Creek Trail have joined forces to present the “Solstice Family Fun Ride,” a vibrant fusion of a guided bike tour and summer solstice festivities. This unique event invites participants of all ages to embrace the great outdoors, cycle to the soundtrack of their favorite tunes played through speakers, and explore the natural beauty of Stevens Creek Trail in an entirely new light.
This year’s Solstice celebration offers two distinct bike routes tailored to suit riders of all skill levels. For families and less experienced cyclists, a leisurely 6-mile route promises a supportive and group-friendly experience designed to be completed in an hour or less. Meanwhile, more adventurous riders can embark on a comprehensive 15-mile journey, delving deeper into the creek’s lush surroundings. Registration for this enriching experience is completely free, including benefits such as route support, engaging learning opportunities from educational speakers, and assistance with any mechanical issues that might arise along the way. Participants are kindly reminded to come prepared with their bikes, helmets, and appropriate gear for a day of fun and exploration.
At the heart of the Solstice Family Fun Ride is a spirit of community engagement and collaboration. This event marks the 11th installment of the quarterly Wheels & Waterways series, a partnership between Friends of Stevens Creek Trail, Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition, and the GBike team, generously sponsored by Valley Water. Together, these organizations aim to foster a closer connection between residents and their local environment while promoting healthy, active lifestyles through cycling. Thanks to this collaboration, attendees can look forward to a day filled with fun, exploration, and invaluable insights into the preservation of the SF Bay wetlands from esteemed speakers like Dave Halsing, Raymond Wong, and Pat Showalter.
As the event draws near, community members are encouraged to register and join in the festivities. This celebration is not only an opportunity to appreciate the natural wonders of Stevens Creek Trail but also a chance to give back. By donating to Friends of Stevens Creek Trail and the Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition, participants can support the sustained care and enhancement of these vital community assets. Every donation, which is tax-deductible, not only contributes to the ongoing efforts to maintain and improve the trail and cycling facilities but also grants an annual membership to SVBC. Embracing the community spirit, this Solstice Family Fun Ride promises to be an unforgettable kickoff to the summer, uniting neighbors, friends, and families in a shared adventure on the longest day of the year.
